Shaoguan, formerly known as Shaozhou, is located in the border between Guangdong and Hunan and Jiangxi. It is known as the “thoroughfare of three provinces” and has been the most important land passage between the Yangtze River valley and the south China coast since ancient times. In the fourth year of Tang Kaiyuan, Zhang Jiu-ling, a member of the Tang Dynasty, presided over the expansion of Meigao Ancient Road and became the shortest traffic route connecting the Yangtze River and the Pearl River in the ancient Silk Road. On the occasion of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the official government tax card in Shaogu Province, people who come and go, said, “To be Shao Prefecture, must first tax clearance.” As time passes, everyone put the Shao government, referred to as Shaoguan.
