方李邦琴,湖北人,1935年4月4日生于北京,1960年随丈夫到美国旧金山落脚,最初仅以200美元的成本做一些印刷的小生意。后来因丈夫病重,她带着三个年幼的孩子苦心经营印刷厂并在唐人街开了一个饭馆。2000年3月,她收购了旧金山两大英文报业之一的《旧金山观察家报》。现在,她拥有11家英文报纸,发行量超过六百万份,成为全美发行量最大的非日报报系。美国媒体称她为“钢铁木兰花”。
Fang Li Bangqin, a native of Hubei Province, was born on April 4, 1935 in Beijing. In 1960, with his husband who arrived in San Francisco, he started printing small businesses at a cost of only 200 U.S. dollars. Later, due to her husband’s illness, she took three young children painstakingly run the printing plant and opened a restaurant in Chinatown. In March 2000, she acquired The San Francisco Observer, one of the two major English newspapers in San Francisco. Now she has 11 English-language newspapers and circulation of more than 6 million copies, making her the nation’s largest circulation newspaper. American media called her “steel magnolia.”
