西瓜嫁接技术在日本已普遍应用于生产。我国湖南省、北京市等地区近几年也开始应用。1986年我所接受了中日合作设施园艺试验任务,与日方技术人员合作,进行了不同品种西瓜、不同砧木,以自根苗的栽培为对照的试验。接穗采用中育六号、春蜜和从日本引进的兔子、第一甜、航空小姐、金山等西瓜品种。砧木采用日本的相生FMT和中国的瓠瓜(Lagenafia vulgaris Gourda Ser)、南瓜(Cucurbita moschata Varmelonaeformis Watermelon grafting technology in Japan has been widely used in production.
