晚香玉(Polianthus tuberasa L.)是石蒜科多年生草本植物。地下具鳞茎状块茎,长圆形;地上茎直立不分枝,基生叶簇生,呈长条带状、线状、披针状,叶片长30～45厘米,宽1～1.8厘米;花葶直立,高40～80厘米,顶部聚生疏穗状花序,每花序有花20朵左右,自下而上陆续开放,可持续约半个月。花洁白浓香,在月色朦胧的夜晚,犹如身披白纱的少女,故又有“月下香”的别名。花期7～8月,早花品种可提早1个月开花,晚花品种则延迟2个月,有的甚至到11月。常见的栽培种有——单瓣种:花单瓣,乳白色,香味较浓,每个花序有花18～24朵,植株较矮,约80～100厘米。重瓣种:花重瓣,花瓣微带紫色,香味较淡,每花序有花24～32朵,植株高且粗壮。
