Objective To investigate the effect of abnormal glucose metabolism on the diastolic function of brachial artery. Methods The brachial artery diameter of 39 patients with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), 47 T2DM patients and 44 normal glucose tolerance patients (NGT) before and after reperfusion were measured by high resolution ultrasound. Results The diastolic function of brachial artery was impaired in IGT and T2DM groups. There was significant difference between T2DM group and NGT group and IGT group (P <0.05). The difference was significant between T2DM group and NGT group (P <0.01). Compared with NGT group, the levels of FPG, HbA 1c and LDL-C in IGT group and T2DM group were negatively correlated with endothelium-dependent vasodilation (EDVR); HDL-C was decreased and positively correlated with EIDVR (all P <0.01). Conclusion Abnormal glucose metabolism can damage the function of brachial artery.
