1876年第一个现代月季品种‘法兰西’诞生以来,现代月季种群不断发展壮大,至今已有约三万个品种,这是其它任何观赏植物所不能比的,创造了植物育种史上的奇迹。月季新品种培育古已有之,古时称之为“变种”;随着现代分子技术的发展,月季的新品种培育技术也有很大的发展。月季新品种的培育,要紧紧围绕月季品种性状改良,培养月季的奇特花色、怡人花香和优美花形来进行。
