Chlorine is an essential element of coconut for photosynthesis. It can prevent photo-passivation of photosystem Ⅱ, which is good for transport of oxidant electrons. Studies at the French Institute of Oil, Fats and Oil and others have shown that lack of chlorine affects not only the growth of seedlings in coconut nurseries, but also the yield of mature coconuts in fields. The Philippine Coconut Bureau Davao Research Station applied 2 kilograms of potassium chloride per hectare of coconuts, resulting in a double production. In nurseries, potassium chloride is more beneficial to the growth of coconut seedlings than potassium sulfate. In order to determine the physiological mechanism of action of chlorine, taken from the Philippines
