Tennessee Williams boldly exposed all the ugly phenomena in American capitalist society under economic prosperity through the taboo topics of descriptiveness, violence, drug abuse, and castration in his book The Sweet Young Birds, Wien, a socially alienated “anti-hero”, characterizes the role of society in forcing the mind to be sensitive but does not want to behave toward the subject of destruction. This article starts with the relationship between unconsciousness and consciousness, signifier and meaning, analyzes the troubles and pains brought by the opposition of Jonas Wayne’s unconsciousness and consciousness, and explores his process of becoming the loser of his own desires, Williams’ exploration of human nature in the process of creation and the rebellion and criticism of the traditional values and mainstream culture of American capitalist society in his unconscious area.
