中国的佛教绘画始于汉、晋,兴于南北朝,盛于唐,续于宋、元、明、清。历朝历代,自始至终都有名画家潜心于佛道内容的绘画,或因擅长佛道人物绘画而名留千古。就连宋元山水画中也强烈地呈现着佛道思想及其审美情趣。佛教自传入中国后,对中国绘画的影响的确深远广大,这一点只要翻一下中国美术史以及从名家名画、从众多的寺院与石窟壁画中,都可以得到印证。然而近一个世纪以来,在中国走向现代化的过程中,与佛道内容有关的绘画在中国
