Although the formation and development of indigenous ethnomusicology in China is inevitable to a certain extent different from that in the West, the development of the discipline of ethnomusicology in western comparative music is still generally conducted. Although ethnomusicology seems to be more concerned with the cultural significance of music in contemporary Western trends, it is not always possible to recognize its essence through cultural studies of musical ontology. Ethnomusicology should be abolished?
