1997年11月10日,中国最大的企业兼并——齐鲁石化公司兼并淄博化纤总厂与淄博石化厂的签字仪式在山东淄博举行。此次兼并,涉及债务总额30多亿元,盘活资产存量20亿元。兼并两厂后,齐鲁石化公司将重组改制为股份有限公司,发行A股。中共中央政治局委员、国务院副总理吴邦国在签字仪式上指出:此次兼并,与南京地区四大化工企业联合一样,对国有经济战略性改组和整体搞活国有经济,具有重要的示范效应。企业的兼并、重组,在中国已不算陌生,只是近一个时期愈演愈烈,成为中国企业改革最重要的景观之一。仪征集团、扬子集团等四家超大型企业在国务院直接部署下完成重组、改制。家电霸主长虹、海尔两集团,在陆续兼并了一些企业后,提出继续走资本扩张之路,争取用不长的时间,进入世界企业
