It is reported that data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of the Philippines shows that in October 1999, the country’s merchandise exports increased by 36% year-on-year to US$3.458 billion, compared with US$2.542 billion in the same period of 1998. This is the largest monthly export increase since April 1997, which was an increase of 39.5% in April 1999. From January to October 1999, Philippine exports increased by 19% year-on-year.
