(一) 我们从本世纪四十年代先后在上海和重庆出版的《说文月刊》上看到,当年历史学界有一位才华横溢的青年学人活跃在论坛上。他的名字叫程仰之,又名程憬。他的才学显然受到了卫聚贤先生的赏识,才能够在那个有影响的学术刊物上一连发表了好几篇有分量的神话学论文。如《古神话中的水神》、《古蜀的洪水神话与中原的洪水神话》(均见《说文月刊>>1942年第3卷第9期)、《古代中国神话中的天、地及昆仑》(《说文月刊》1944年第4期)等,都曾引起人们的注意。但刚交五十年代,这位青年学人就昙花一现般地从学术界消失了。 1950年,程憬的遗孀沙应若女士把程先生的一部27万字的遗稿《中国古代神话研究》,托付给了德高望重的史学界权威顾颉刚先生,请他设法帮助出版,以实现程先生的遗愿。经过顾先生的努力,曾有一家出版社于1955年把这部稿子排出了清样,但并没有出版。1958年,中国民间文艺研究会研究部决定把程著收入他们主编的“民间文学丛书”,并请顾先生为之写序。顾先生欣然从命,很快就把序文写好了。由于“大跃进”,反右倾,文艺界的小整风,等等,接连不断的运动,这部写于四十年代的书稿,终于未能得以出版。最近,我因撰写关于顾颉刚与“古史辨”神话学派的文章,从他的女儿顾潮编著的《顾颉刚年谱》(中

In 1958, the research department of China Folk Literature and Art Research Society decided to include Cheng in their “Folk Literature Series” and invited Mr. Gu to write the order.
