The establishment of the World Harmonic Immunization Day has benefited generations. It has saved innumerable children from the clutches of the poliovirus, relieving them of the fate of life-long disabilities and even death. Historically, polio has brought untold suffering to countless patients and families. But unlike most chronic illnesses, poliomyelitis can be eliminated. To this end, the 41st World Health Assembly, convened in 1988, launched the campaign “World Polio Eradication by the Year 2000” and the annual December 15 World Immunization Day.
