The English terminology for the unit of capacity “L” in our country is Litre, so the capitalization of “L” as its symbol does not seem to be a problem. However, the International Metrology Convention once stipulated that if a unit symbol is to be capitalized, the symbol must be able to represent the name of a scientist who made outstanding contributions in the field related to the unit, for example, The symbol of “N ” as the unit of “force ” is associated with Newton, the founder of the famous classical mechanics. Therefore, the symbol “L ” must also have a representative in terms of capacity. And the representative is Cla-ude Emile Jean Baptiste Lilre, who made a significant contribution to volumetric research. Litter (1716 ~ 1778) was born in France, relocated to the United States in 1736 Sandwich, Cape Town, a consultant for children’s glass products factory. He met a big local businessman named Josiah Barrell. Barrell is worrying about the lack of a suitable volumetric capacity for shipping an orange.
