1905年晚清中央政府谕令立停科举,但暂时保留优拔贡考试和举贡保送考职。此后河南、湖南、江西等省皆有因应上述政令“兼彰存古之义”的办学努力,不同程度地影响到后来保存国粹学堂的兴办进程。过去对此研究相当不足。重建上述办学努力的相关史实,可从一个与科举停废直接相关的视角,增进对清季官方保存国粹努力这一复杂历史图景的了解。而对科举停废后若干办学方案的比照研究,或可推进对清季“学堂办法”与“书院考课”区别的认知。
