For the past three years, I have been working on the Title II project. These projects aim to understand the needs of industry and commerce in mathematics and how to train our high school graduates to meet their needs. During this process, we sent on-the-job teachers in the fourth to the twelfth grade to conduct in-depth investigations in the industrial and commercial sectors to study how mathematics can solve practical problems in daily life. The departments under investigation included local hospitals, real estate companies, insurance companies and major national corporations (such as Holiday Inn and E.F. Hutton). A number of government agencies, such as the Chief Justice for Administration and NASA, are also involved in these projects. The idea of how to better train graduates to meet business needs has been endorsed by the business community, and various local newspapers have made timely reports and propaganda on this issue.
