水稻常规育种在六十年代的矮化和株型育种中起了主导作用,使水稻单位面积产量有了大幅度提高,并为三系育种提供了丰富的遗传材料,为三系育种的成功奠定了基础。 杂交水稻的育成和在我省的大面积推广,使我省水稻的产量上到了一个较高的台阶,而且随着杂交稻研究的深化,产量还可能会有新的提高。在这一形势下,怎样才能使水稻常规品种在未来的生产中发挥积极作用,这将是常规育种面临的严峻挑战。我们认为常规育种在今后的水稻育种和生产中仍然有不可低估的作用,本文谨以此为宗旨,提出了“水稻优势基因群之选择与超高产育种”的设想,以图抛砖引玉。
