The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) announced the list of the world’s 100 largest economies in 2000 on the 12th of August. Twenty-nine multinational corporations were among the top five countries, up from 24 in 1990, which means that multinational corporations have become increasingly globalized. The overall ranking is a ranking of the economic strength of countries and regions around the world as well as large multinationals in 2000, with countries and regions based on GDP and companies ranked on the basis of value added.
