南岭成矿带下古生界主体为浅变质碎屑岩夹碳酸盐岩、硅页岩建造,是钒钼铀、石煤、磷、铅锌矿的赋矿层位。由于历史原因,早古生代岩石地层序列在湘、桂、赣、粤各省区交界地区存在同物异名现象,需要重新厘定、完善。依据大地构造演化阶段,将南岭成矿带早古生代划分为1个地层区——华南地层区,再依据处于盆地的不同位置划分为6个地层分区,一般在同一地层分区内采用同一套岩石地层序列,基于此,重点对湘、黔、桂、赣、粤各省区交界地区的寒武系和奥陶系进行了梳理,重新厘定和完善早古生代岩石地层序列,废弃部分岩石地层单位,以利于该地区地质矿产图的编制。
