文中 ,罗纳根自称“批判实在论者” ,他反对素朴实在论把客观性归结为似视觉性的观点 ,也反对唯心主义通过区分现象和实在从而取消客观性的主张 ,还反对以人的生存与交往的交互性代替客观性的做法。他认为人的认识是由各种互不相似却功能关联的感性、理智和理性活动所构成的“能动结构” ,该结构由意向性主宰 ,人的认识就是以其整个“能动结构”去意指存在 ,不断超越从而达到客观性的。并且 ,人的认识的能动结构还存在于人的生存这一更大的能动结构之中。这种理论一反西方主流认识论将认识的客观性归结为人的认识的某一要素的传统 ,把认识的客观性置于认识的结构整体之上 ,为克服当今盛行的相对主义、重建认识的客观性提供了一条宝贵的思路
