Practice in China UED: The Creative Media Center of City University of Hong Kong is your first project in China. Unlike the buildings you’ve completed before, this teaching building looks like a white wall without any other skin material. How do you think about such an earthy surface? Daniel Libeskind (DL): Materials are certainly important to architecture, but for me the most important aspect of architecture is space. CityU is a public university, so this building requires a lower cost. The construction cost is calculated by the Hong Kong government departments and their original calculation was to consider building a cost-effective “box”
