Absorption and emission spectra of eight naphtholazobenzene derivatives are investigated.Absorption processes of n→π~* and π→π~* transition and emission processes from the excitedstates are studied separately in each compound. Intra- and inter-molecular energy transfersfrom the excited states of different chromophores are discussed. Effects of the molecularstructure and the pH value of the solution on the electronic spectra are discussed also. On thebasis of quantum chemistry theory, the spectral data are analyzed qualitatively.
