Objective To investigate the effect of health literacy and coping style on prenatal intentions in patients with avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH) and to analyze the pathways influencing them. Methods A total of 307 ANFH patients treated at a tertiary level general hospital were investigated using the questionnaire of pre-hospital delay, questionnaire of health literacy and coping style. Results The pre-hospital delayed intention score was (94.73 ± 14.35) points. Multiple stepwise regression showed that the disease prevention and control literacy and first aid literacy and avoidance response, yield response and coping response explained the variance of 63.20% Further path analysis shows that disease prevention and control literacy and first aid literacy have both direct and indirect effects on pre-hospital delay intentions, and coping styles have a direct impact on pre-hospital delay intentions. Conclusions The intention of pre-hospital delay in ANFH patients is relatively serious. Nurses can improve the patient’s health literacy and improve the coping strategies to improve the timeliness of medical treatment.
