1992年7月4日,上海东方商厦有限公司在上海《每周广播电视报》上刊出“广告语有奖征集活动”的广告,征集简洁流畅、易记上口、能充分体现东方企业形象的广告用语,让更多的人了解东方商厦,并设一二三等奖和纪念奖。此广告未注明“一经录用,版权归东方商厦所有”。某公司职员王定芳以“世界风采东方情韵”应征并被选中。同年9月4日,《解放日报》上刊出“上海东方商厦有限公司企业标志、广告用语评选结果公告”、“世界风采东方情韵——上海东方商厦”,作者王定芳;
