“递相祖述”是杜甫《戏为六绝句》中提到的一种文学现象,历代诗家从诗字、引事用典、诗体和风格方面对“递相祖述”有不同的阐释,但都重在对师承借鉴关系的辩证批判。同时,作为中国古代重要的学术现象,“递相祖述”广泛见论于史学、医学、哲学领域。“递相祖述”分形式和内容两层面:形式上以史家为代表,注重史著体例的因袭;内容上具有守正出新、守旧蹈袭和守虚论异三重内涵。诸家对“递相祖述”内涵的不同侧重内在地包含了复古与通变的思想。本文在探讨“递相祖述”作为学术现象和治学方法的基础上,进一步挖掘其诗学内涵及其在文学理论史上的重要影响和启示。
