随着社会生产和人们生活对于天气依赖性的增强，天气预报成为了受众“必视”的节目形态之一。1980年7月7日，由国家气象中心提供资料、中央电视台制作的天气预报节目开播，成为中国电视天气预报节目的滥觞。近年来，这一节目类型在内容、形式和经营管理等方面不断改革和完善，形成了较为稳定的节目特征。
