To the editor:Mycoplasma pneumoniae (Mp) is a major cause of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in children and young adults.Macrolide antibiotics are generally recognized as first-choice agents for Mp infections in pediatric patients.rnWe investigated the surveillance status of macrolide resistant (MR)-Mp and analyzed the clinical features of patients with MR-Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (Mpp),as well as the relationship between the severity of Mpp and macrolide resistance of Mp.Throat swab specimens were collected from 137 children with CAP who were admitted to the pediatric wards at Beijing Friendship Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University in 2010.Fifty-three MR-Mp strains were identified from the 137 children with CAP using conventional cultures, serologic testing for Mp-IgM,nested PCR(nPCR),and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
