<正> The effect of treatment with two kinds of salt solutions, ZnCl2 and SnCl2, on improving the alkali-attack resistance of soda lime glasses has been studied in this paper. The amount of silica leached out by alkali attack on the glasses treated with above two solutions and the changes of IRRS (Infrared Reflection Spectra) of the glass surface attacked by aqueous alkali were determined, and the glass surfaces treated by these two solutions were also analysed by ESCA (Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis of X -rays). The status of the ions of the solutions remaining on the glass surfaces and the depth diffused into the glass surfaces were obtained, and the mechanism has been discussed theoretically.
