南朝虞龢《论书表》中对“钟王”书法特点,提出了“古质而今妍”的美学命题,其中涉及到笔法问题。本文以楷书为切入点,从笔画形态、用笔变化、贯气方式与取势追求四个方面,对钟书“古质”和王书“今妍”的笔法特征进行比较分析。钟书属于篆隶系统的变异,崇尚自发的书写,侧重艺术性表达,体现出质朴、拙厚的意趣;王书属于草(行)楷系统的涵泳,追求自觉的书写,强调法度,反映出妍美、飘逸的字势。这是钟、王书美学特征实体性的表现,也是两大笔势类型的书写差异。
