上期说到董海川在清肃亲王府当差,一日展露八卦奇功,引得众人交口称赞。只有护院总管沙某夫妻见了,心中着实不快,遂向肃亲王请求同董海川比武。肃亲王立即应允,董遂同沙某人比试了几个回合,但沙某怎么也胜不了董海川。肃亲王大喜,以后即任命董海川倣护院总管。吃了败仗的沙某,心中窝火,遂与其妻密谋要暗害董海川。一天夜里,沙某夫妻偷袭董海川,被董海川当场缴了武器,使沙某再一次领略了董海川的武艺高超,遂跪下求饶,并要拜师学艺,但不久此事传扬出去,沙某羞愧难当,以后不知隐向了何方。在这之前,宫中珍宝不断被盗,自从董海川武名远扬之后,盗贼再也不敢来了。董海川告老还乡后,由其徒尹福继任护院总管。董在1880年逝世,享年84岁。尹福连同其他弟子,在北京东直门外红桥大道旁竖一碑,颂扬董海川的业迹。
