李玉兰,女,57岁,中共党员,安徽省蚌埠市蚌山区天桥街道居民。在今年首次全国道德模范的评选表彰活动中,被评为全国助人为乐模范。58岁的李玉兰用自己从牙缝里省出的钱,资助了全国23个省、市、自治区的100多名上不起学的孩子,8年如一日把7位孤寡老人当做亲爹亲娘一样来供养,一次一次地帮助病友和灾区人民。据不完全统计,1990年以来,她累计向社会捐款17万多元。17年捐了17万元,李玉兰是中华慈善奖中捐献金额最少的一位了,然而,如果计算捐献金额与财产总数的比例,那么李玉兰可能又是捐献最多的一位。2005年,在首届中华慈善奖颁奖典礼上,她与李嘉诚、霍英东、成龙、李宁等名人一起出现在领奖台上,令千万国人震撼、感动。朴素的她对多年的善举只是这样解释:“看到别人挨饿受冻、孩子上不起学,我就揪心,就睡不踏实。”
