The changes of endocrine system in 65 males who were living in the tunnel for 7 days were observed. The results showed that the values of T4, Ts, FT4I and thyroid uptake were all lower than those before the experiment (P <0.01), while thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) increased (P < (P <0.01). The levels of plasma cortisol, 17-OHCS and 17-KS decreased with the prolongation of time in the cave. , Angiotensin Ⅰ converting enzyme were higher than those before experiment (P <0.01). There was no significant difference (P> 0.05) between the above groups except for T4 (P <0.01). It is suggested that due to the stimulation of the compound environment in the tunnel, the endocrine system dysfunction is caused, which causes the stability of the internal environment to escape and a variety of stress reactions occur. Such “tunnel reaction” should take measures to improve and prevent.
