佛教是清代宫廷生活与文化的重要组成部分。清王朝与佛教,尤其是与藏传佛教的渊源是久远而厚的,其历朝帝王、后妃中,崇奉佛教者甚众。无论于他们是出于纯然的宗教信仰,抑或“安抚蒙藏”的统治策略,乃至杂糅种种而成的动机,遍布禁宫内外的皇家御用佛堂的兴修;不计其数的经典、佛像、祭法器等宗教品的制作及其存留至今,则是我们在300年后仍可凭以想见当时信仰之盛况的直接依据。
