1 Introduction The statistical properties of stochastic processes are described by the joint probability density function of the process and its derivative of time. In order to determine the joint probability distribution, a given set of control parameters must have a total set of time history describing the characteristics of the probabilistic process. When recording seismic ground motion, we generally only have a given set of controls (such as the magnitude of the earthquake, the distance of a source, the regional geology, the site soil conditions, etc.)
