Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) components are closely related, but also the performance of MetS liver, the two complement each other. There is a growing realization that NAFLD promotes metabolic disorders and is further focused on endothelial dysfunction in NAFLD resulting in an increased incidence of atherosclerosis (AS) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). NAFLD is considered as an independent risk factor for AS. Whether or not it can independently predict the risk of cardiovascular events remains controversial. Therefore, the changes of vascular endothelial function during the development of NAFLD have been emphasized. This article reviews the progress of the relationship between the two.
