TORCH infection has its own specific pathogenesis and potentially damaging clinical manifestations. Toxoplasma congenital infection is still an important factor leading to blindness, although avoid eating raw meat, and cats can be prevented by the contact. Infection rates for congenital rubella and varicella were reduced due to vaccination. The incidence of congenital syphilis decline due to mandatory prenatal care and effective treatment. Congenital HIV infections in developing countries are growing at a dreadful rate, while antiretroviral therapy for newborns and mothers in the United States can reduce the incidence. In the United States, cytomegalovirus remains the most common cause of congenital infection and recent studies have shown that ganciclovir (Roche) may be an effective treatment. Selective cesarean section and antiviral therapy can reduce neonatal herpes incidence and improve prognosis.
