乳麋尿相当于祖国医学之“膏淋”,其在班氏丝虫病晚期并发率可高达78.3%,它如腹腔结核、肿瘤,胸腹部创伤或手术、先天性淋巴系统疾病、肾盂肾炎、妊娠、包虫和疟疾均可出现,不过仍以丝虫病为广见。现代采硝酸银肾盂冲洗法治疗,惟效极暂,且非治本之法;肾蒂淋巴管结扎术和腰干淋巴管精索(卵巢)内静脉吻合术仅对部分病例有较好之远期疗效,奇静脉和胸导管吻合术成功率只50%左右。
