At present, China’s mainstream media lacks motivation to pay attention to labor issues from a subjective perspective. Contemporary Chinese labor-run media as a whole can be seen as “the actors in the gap.” They are mostly “advocacy” alternative media, attaching importance to labor subjectivity, advocating criticism and reflection, and calling for the return of actors with the self-expectation of undertaking the lowest voices, the enlightenment of the class, and the disadvantaged empowerment. At the characterization level, they have tried their best to foster the fight against the public domain. Given the current regulatory easing on the media industry and the ILO that lacks a tightening-easing adjustment, the future of Chinese labor-run media will be a long-term move in the gap.
