Objective: To investigate the significance of detection of fetal cord blood mannose lectin (MBL) in judging cytotoxicity of cytomegalovirus (CMV) hepatitis. Methods: The concentrations of nectar agglutinin in cord blood of 88 neonates infected with cytomegalovirus during the first trimester of pregnancy were determined, and the neonatal cytomegalovirus infection and clinical conditions were analyzed. Results: The concentration of BML in neonatal infection group was lower than that in non-infected group. The concentration of BML in cord blood was lower in children with poor prognosis than in those with better prognosis. Conclusion: The low concentration of BML in neonates is associated with cytomegalovirus infection, and BML may have a protective effect on CMV infection.
