To explore the relationship between the levels of trace elements (TE) such as zinc, iron, copper and lead and IQ in children, the levels of zinc, lead, copper, iron in hair of 100 normal children and 100 mentally handicapped children were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry Element content, while blood trace elements determination. The results showed that the content of Zn in hair of normal children was significantly higher than that in mental retardation children. The content of Cu in normal children was also significantly higher than that in mental retardation children. There was no significant difference in Fe content between the two groups Underdeveloped children. The conclusion shows that lack of trace elements or poisoning affect children’s brain development and intelligence level.
