在20世纪初叶的英国文坛上,深受法国写实主义和自然主义小说影响、较为"先锋"的贝内特在其小说创作中引进了一些道德上敏感的主题,这使他同较为传统的英国公众发生了冲突。在贝内特看来,忠于艺术还是向公众妥协是作一个艺术家还是仅仅当一个讲故事者的大问题,但尽管如此,他还是对公众作了很大的妥协。本文拟结合法国文学对英国文坛和社会的影响对这时期贝内特的小说创作作一分析与评述。
At the beginning of the twentieth century in the English literary world, Bennett, a more “avant-garde” influenced by French realistic and naturalistic novels, introduced some morally sensitive themes to his novels, which brought him in line with the more traditional British The public has a conflict. In Bennett’s opinion, loyalty to the arts or compromise to the public is a big problem for an artist or a mere storyteller, but nevertheless he makes a great compromise with the public. This article intends to analyze and comment on Bennett ’s novels in this period according to the influence of French literature on British literature and society.
