N.Scott Momaday is a famous contemporary American writer in the United States. His most famous work, Dawn House, won the 1969 Pulitzer Prize for Literature. The House of Dawn mainly describes the life experiences of the Indian youth, Aboul. From his childhood, Abe lived in a reservation for six years in jail for murder, and was placed in Los Angeles after being released from prison. His life in Los Angeles has put him in trouble: he finds himself unable to forget the life in the reservation, and wants to pursue his American Dream in Los Angeles. However, living in a white world hurt Abble and eventually decided to return to the reservation. The novel also depicts the confusion of other characters under the impact of the white culture. Francesco represented the older generation that has been living in reserve, and Tossama represented the Indian young generation that did not grow up in reserves. Momadi reflects the dilemma of contemporary American Indian culture through The Dawn House: Francisco embodies the religious predicament, Tortama embodies the literal dilemma, and Aboul embodies the spiritual dilemma.
