在《铜镜纹饰研究中的思想史视角》中,笔者曾提到过铜镜断代问题中的“模糊性”原则。意即从思想史的发展角度来说,几十年甚至上百年这样的时间单位显得无足轻重。从断代的意义来上来,越模糊才能越准确。此次以手头发表与未发表的资料中的特例——战国铭文铜镜与孤证——“西汉墓中出土的东汉铜镜”为材料,对这两面特殊的铜镜进行分析,并对“模糊性原则”的适用范围进行较为精确的定位。
