笙的历史悠久、造型别致、发音独特、表现力丰富,在我国民族乐器中占有重要的地位。笙的各种技巧,更是异彩纷呈。有似凤凰展翅的呼舌、如碎玉叮咚的历音、像骏马奔腾的吐音、犹山岚飘绕的指管音,以及花舌、拨舌、颤指、打指、滑音、呼打等二十余种。其中用笙吹奏出的各种复调,更是千变万化。随着笙的不断改良和完善,音域扩大了、补全了半音、增加了音键,簧片的灵敏度也高了。加上演奏水平的不断提高和发展,复调技巧也随之有了新的突破,使笙这件和声乐器得到了淋漓尽致地发挥。纵观目前笙曲中形形色色的复调手法,其创作依据和使用手法,大致有以下几种:
