AIn Jules Verne s story, a wealthy English gentleman, Phileas Fogg, accepts a bet of £20,000 that he can travel around the world in 80 days. Phileas Fogg is a man who is very hard to please. For example, he fires his servant because the servant brings him some water which is 29℃ instead of 30℃. He has a very strict routine and he follows it to the letter every day.
BThe story is easy for us to read. The humorous twists and turns of the plot keep you entertained throughout. It s a romantic adventure story that I will strongly recommend to all my friends. I m sure that you ll enjoy it! C Later Fogg employs a new servant, Passepartout, and on Wednesday, 2nd October, 1872, they start the journey around the world. While he s in India, Fogg falls in love with an Indian girl, Aouda. The journey ends back in London with Fogg believing that he s arrived a day too late and that he s lost the bet. He tells Aouda that he cannot marry her now, as he s too poor. Passepartout learns that they ve got the date wrong. The party travelled eastward, so they gained a day. Fogg hurries to his club and arrives there in time to win the bet and the story ends happily.
DJules Verne s novel, Around the World in 80 Days, has inspired many people to travel around the world in unusual ways. It s also inspired several films, TV series, theatre productions and even a board game. So where did Jules Verne get the idea from?
EJules Verne told a reporter that he d been sitting in a café in Paris one day when he saw a newspaper advertisement for the first ever tourist trip around the world in 1872. So what s the novel about?

B: Now people are talking about what makes a person happy in working.
A: It isn t always possible to be happy at work, but it helps if
  you are, doesn t it?
B: Oh, yes—we spend a lot of our lives at work. What about a good salary? How important is that do you think?
A: It depends what you mean by a good salary. I don t think it needs to be very high for people to be happy—as long as it s enough for people to have a basically good standard of living.
B: I totally agree. I mean you need to live and eat, and not have to worry too much about money. Then we ve got a modern work place. I imagine that it refers to the facilities and attitude of the employers helping staff to relax and do things like playing table football in their breaks.
A: I think you re right. Again—I would say that it would be good to have those things, but it s not vital for a happy working life.
B: Here I have to disagree! I think it makes a lot of differences if you can relax and have fun at work. Otherwise you might get bored or too stressed out to do your job.
A: OK, you ve got a point there! For me it s great to have friendly people around you when you work. They can help make your life easier and make the time you spend at work more enjoyable. B: Very true!

Have you always dreamed of being an Olympic swimmer? Of course, not everyone can win medals, but don t let that put you off. With practice and determination you can surely make great progress in swimming.
I ve been passionate about being a competitive swimmer ever since I was a small child. While the other kids were splashing about in swimming lessons, I used every second of the time to practise my strokes. Soon I started entering races and, even though I didn t win them all, I kept improving my time and technique. By the time I was 14, I was the fastest swimmer in the school and now my burning ambition is to swim for my country.
There are a few things you need to bear in your mind if you really want to excel as a swimmer.
First of all, however talented you are, you need dedication (奉献精神) in order to succeed. It isn t easy to get up every morning at 6:00 a.m.; nevertheless, with time you can overcome your dislike and even start enjoying it!
Secondly, you need a really good coach who can encourage you to do your best.
And last but not least, you need to have a positive attitude.
