Late Triassic shallow-water fauna distribution, variability and the classification of a large number of combinations of data can be accommodated in a climate model. This model assumes that the oceans at the lower latitudes of the early Tertiary are much colder than the modern ones and the high latitudes are much hotter than the modern ones. This palaeoclimate hypothesis is consistent with the contemporary level of palaeostate interpretation; this model effectively eliminates the hypothesis of adjustment for the degree of variability as determined by climatic formations and explains the younger genus of Tropicans.
