Ventilation has always been an integral part of underground mining operations. As surface and shallow deposits are depleting, extracting ores from deeper underground levels is becoming more and more common, and is expected to grow in the future [1]. Rising environmental awareness, energy cost and implementation of car-bon tax in some countries have led the mining industry to look for cleaner altatives [2]. In addition, advances in electric machinery and battery technology have started to challenge the domination of diesel equipment in underground operations [3]. Machine leing, the Intet of Things (Big Data), high performance computing, remote equipment operation and automation have also started to play key roles in underground operations.
