According to reports from the Defense News website, the German Rhine Metal Company and the German Defense Forces successfully tested high-energy laser effects installed on Germany’s far-sea warships. The test installed a 10-kw high-energy laser effect on the MLG27 light naval gun on the battleship, including tracking of potential targets such as UAVs and small surface-based vehicles. These operations are passive, the laser is not fired at sea, high-energy laser effects were ground moving targets were tested. The feasibility of integrating Rhine Metal’s high-energy laser effects in MLG 27 operations at sea can provide an important basis for the future development of offshore HEL systems.
