Fluorene reacted with butyllithium to give 9- (3-bromopyridine) fluorene by reaction with 3-bromopyridine. Reaction of 9- (3-bromopyridine) with lithium butyrate to give lithium 9- (3-bromopyridine) -9-fluorene and chiral epichlorohydrin gave the title compound. The optical purity of the resulting product is similar to that of the starting material epichlorohydrin.
